Dear Members,
It is with great pleasure that I begin my year as President of the Central New York Chapter of WBASNY. I feel a tremendous sense of pride when I think about all of my dynamic predecessors. Each of our former Presidents made great contributions to strengthen our Chapter by organizing interesting and diverse programs for our members. No one exemplifies this more than our immediate past president, Janet Izzo. It is my hope that the CNYWBA can continue to grow strong and further its mission under my leadership.
To that end, our Board has set a very ambitious agenda this year. We want each and every member to feel his or her membership is worth every penny of his or her dues. Our goal is to continue the CNYWBA tradition of interesting, relevant, fun and low-cost programs. This year is off to a strong start with our installation event which was held on June 5 at the Delavan Art Gallery. Over 60 people attended. I think I speak for all of those who attended when I say that the evening was very enjoyable and brought out many familiar faces as well as several new ones. The momentum continued with Karen DeCrow hosting the annual summer picnic on July 10 and our Annual Golf Outing on August 6. A number of social events are lined up for the fall including networking opportunities and our annual Judicial Reception. Hon. Rosemary Pooler has graciously agreed to again host our annual Holiday Party. In addition, our Chapter is coordinating CLE programs to provide an additional benefit to our members – at no cost!
One of our goals this year is to increase our membership. Did you know that our calendar year runs from June-May (not January-December)? Hard to believe, but it’s time to renew. In order to help us reach our goal, we are offering an added incentive to get your membership application in early.
Our members enjoy lower rates for our events and programs than non-members. Did you know that the savings that is achieved over the course of a year by being a member is in excess of the cost to join? As even more incentive, all those who renew (or join) at the sustaining member rate of $110.00 will receive free admission to our Judicial Reception on October 18 (a savings of $20.00 at that event alone). Membership applications must be post marked by October 1st in order to take advantage of this offer. Individuals must join at the sustaining member rate in order to get a free admission to the Judicial Reception. To jump start our membership drive, CNYWBA will host an informal Networking/ Membership Cocktail Hour on September 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Ohm Lounge in Armory Square. All those in attendance who renew their membership, or join, will be eligible for door prizes. RSVP to Mary Snyder, our Membership Director, mlsnyder@bsk.com or 218-8168. As we continue to strive to keep our members happy, and attract new members, we would like to hear from you. What programs would you like to see? What issues do you think we should be focusing on? How can we attract and retain new members? Your comments and suggestions are welcomed.
In closing, I would like to acknowledge the tremendous support from our members that I have received since being installed as President. In particular, I also want to thank my colleagues at Hancock & Estabrook, LLP who have always encouraged me to be active in the Women’s Bar. Lastly, I would be remise if I did not thank my better half, my husband, Kurt Rosengrant, who is always by my side and supports me in all that I do.
Here’s to a great year!
Maureen E. Maney, President
