Good afternoon, CNYWBA members and friends, I am the Chair of the Read Across America Committee of the Central New York Women’s Bar Association, and I am thrilled to announce that the CNYWBA will once again be hosting the award-winning reading program at three local schools and donating books to each school’s library.

Read Across America is an annual celebration of literacy that takes place in schools across the country in March. NEA’s goal is to make sure that every student has access to age-appropriate books that show they are reflected and respected, and opposes efforts to limit students’ access to books. https://www.nea.org/professional-excellence/student-engagement/read-across-america

This year’s Read Across America program will be hosted at East Syracuse Elementary School on March 7, 2024, Roberts Elementary on March 8, 2024 and Main Street Early Education Program on March 21, 2024. We are looking for volunteers to read at each school and hope that you can participate. It is allowed and encouraged for readers to choose multiple schools and/or multiple time slots. Each year I also ask readers to bring an age-appropriate book to offer to read in the classroom and then leave behind to enhance the teacher’s personal library. Some teachers will have their own books and other teachers may ask readers to stay to read another story.

It’s a fun a rewarding event where readers are met with enthusiastic children excited for a visitor to read them a story.

Please consider volunteering for the 2024 reading event. Below are the available time slots for each of the schools. Please REPLY TO ME ONLY by email with your preferred school and timeslot and I will send you an individual planner with more details. Thank you in advance for participating in the event. I look forward to hearing back from you. Have a great day everyone!

Best regards, Amy D’Ambrogio
